Parasite-Induced Diarrhea Ⅴ (Cross-Species)

T.F. (Toxoplasma gondii): An obligate intracellular parasite with cross-species infectivity (e.g., humans, cats, livestock), which can invade the intestinal tract and trigger diarrhea in susceptible hosts, especially immunocompromised individuals.

GIA (Giardia intestinalis, also called Giardia lamblia): A common intestinal protozoan parasite transmitted across species (humans, companion animals, livestock), adhering to intestinal mucosa to cause acute/chronic diarrhea, often with symptoms like abdominal cramps and malabsorption.

Cryptosporidium: A microscopic intestinal parasite with broad cross-species hosts (humans, poultry, mammals), infecting intestinal epithelial cells to induce watery diarrhea—severe in immunocompromised populations (e.g., HIV patients) and young hosts.

P. hominis (Pentatrichomonas hominis): An intestinal flagellate parasite mainly infecting humans (with potential cross-species transmission to animals), colonizing the large intestine and potentially causing diarrhea, especially in individuals with intestinal barrier dysfunction.

Neospora (primarily Neospora caninum): A cross-species intracellular parasite (hosts: dogs, cattle, sheep, humans), which can affect the intestinal tract and cause diarrhea in infected animals (e.g., puppies, calves) and rarely in immunocompromised humans.

Clinical Application:

Rapid Etiological Diagnosis: Enables rapid detection of the five target parasitic pathogens in stool samples from humans and various animals (e.g., companion animals, livestock) within hours—significantly faster than traditional methods (microscopy, culture), facilitating early identification of the cause of diarrhea and avoiding delayed treatment.

Cross-Species Infection Screening: Supports simultaneous screening of parasitic infections across human and animal hosts, which is critical for identifying zoonotic transmission routes (e.g., diarrhea in humans caused by animal-sourced Cryptosporidium or T.F.) and preventing cross-species outbreak spread.

Precise Pathogen Differentiation: Accurately distinguishes between the five parasitic species, avoiding misdiagnosis caused by overlapping diarrhea symptoms (e.g., distinguishing Cryptosporidium-induced watery diarrhea from GIA-induced diarrhea) and providing a clear basis for etiological diagnosis.
