Anaplasma phagocytophilum (A. phagocytophilum) is an important pathogen that can cause diseases shared by cats and dogs. It belongs to the genus Anaplasma of the family Anaplasmataceae within the order Rickettsiales. It is pleomorphic and mainly infects neutrophils. This pathogen can be transmitted to animals through tick bites. After infection, the host may experience symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle pain, anemia, etc. In severe cases, it can affect the functions of multiple organs, posing a great threat to the health of pets.

Clinical Application:

  • Early and Precise Diagnosis:
After cats and dogs are infected with Anaplasma phagocytophilum, the nucleic acid of the pathogen may already be present in their bodies before obvious clinical symptoms appear. Nucleic acid detection reagents can detect the nucleic acid of the pathogen in the early stage of infection, which helps to detect the infection as early as possible and provides a basis for timely treatment. For example, even if cats and dogs have not shown typical symptoms such as fever, anemia, and joint pain after being bitten by ticks, by using nucleic acid detection reagents to detect the nucleic acid of Anaplasma phagocytophilum in their blood, if the result is positive, intervention treatment can be carried out in advance to prevent the further development of the disease.

  • Efficacy evaluation:
During the treatment of cats and dogs infected with Anaplasma phagocytophilum, regular detection with nucleic acid detection reagents can help understand the clearance of the pathogen in the body. If the treatment is effective, the nucleic acid detection result will gradually turn negative, indicating that the number of pathogens has decreased or the pathogens have been completely eliminated. Conversely, if the nucleic acid detection remains positive after treatment, it suggests that the treatment plan may need to be adjusted, such as changing the drug, increasing the drug dosage, or changing the treatment method.
